What is Active Recovery, and How Can It Benefit My Recovery Plan?
Recovery is as important, if not more important, than your workout. There are two different types of recovery: active and passive recovery. Although both types are helpful, active recovery aids the body in recovering more quickly from a more strenuous workout.
Examples of low intensity active recovery exercise are:
Yoga
Walking
Jogging
Cycling
Swimming
Active recovery exercises are considered more beneficial than general stretching after your workout, but are exponentially better than general inactivity.
According to Medical News Today, Choosing to have an active recovery can benefit you by
Reducing lactic acid buildup in the muscles
Increasing blood flow to muscle tissue
Removing metabolic waste from the muscles
Reducing muscle tears and pain
Active recovery can help reduce your risk of muscle and joint pain after a strenuous workout. If you are experience any pain and would like to make a recovery plan, our experienced physical therapists and Keystone would be happy to help!
