Orthotics vs. Inserts: What is right for you?
If you are experiencing chronic foot pain, the $5 inserts from your local drug store might not be the answer. Depending on what type of pain you are experiencing, you might need to go a step further towards a custom orthotic. At Keystone Physical Therapy, we have years of experience at custom-fitting the right orthotic for every patient.
Inserts that you may buy without a prescription are generally made of a material such as gel or foam. Many are somewhat customizable, as you are able to cut the top off as needed so they fit into your shoe. They may be a quick fix to make your shoes more comfortable, but are not designed to treat chronic food pain or correct it.
Orthotics are prescription medical devices that are custom-made to fit your feet, and treat your specific pain. These can help treat foot issues that may stem from how you walk, stand or run. They can also help treat pain that may be caused by medical conditions such as diabetes or arthritis.
Our physical therapists will work with you to find the best solution for your unique situation. With years of experience customizing orthotics, our therapists have seen it all, and now how to best treat your situation. We will be happy to work with you to design a plan to ensure the alleviation of your pain.
